Episode 428: Three Straight and a Goalie Debate
Posted on (Season 15)
The Calgary Flames have won three straight games and four of their last five, climbing out of the NHL basement and into the Pacific Division mix. Dan and Matt recap wins over the Minnesota Wild and Detroit Red Wings, including Devin Cooley’s third consecutive victory, and debate how Calgary should divide the starts between Cooley and Dustin Wolf.
The young players continue to make an impact. Jonathan Castagna is stepping into Michael Backlund’s role, Aydar Suniev is producing offensively, and Matvei Gridin is finding his footing. Dan and Matt discuss the call-ups, the Flames’ improving team play, and why building good habits matters more than the standings during a rebuild.
They also check in on the Calgary Wranglers, discuss the team’s defensive depth and goaltending prospects, and consider what the Flames’ early-season success means for their draft position.
Plus, the guys look ahead to a busy week featuring Toronto, Edmonton, Seattle and Colorado, make their predictions, and discuss how the Flames should manage their goaltenders through four games in six nights. With the return of the 2004 throwback jerseys, there’s plenty of nostalgia as the Saddledome hosts another chapter in Flames history.
