Episode 239: Pressing Pause

Posted on March 17, 2020

COVID-19 has caused the NHL to “pause” their season.  Dan and Matt discuss our prediction of if/when the NHL will resume playing this year, and if the league will go right to the playoffs or not.  We also discuss the passing of Ken King, and the Flames decision not to pay hourly workers (which has since been reversed).

On the hockey front, the guys discuss if Geoff Ward should be back as head coach next season, and look at some of the Flames prospects and how their season is looking.

We don’t know what the future of the show is this year yet. We’re going to try to get some interviews, but things may be sporadic for a while.

  1. ok, so if theres any hockey to be played its going to be in Canada, as the USA will be in a quagmire for months.
Any hockey will be played without fans in a neutral site if they want to do something with this season.
Regular season done, playoff will be with 6 or 8 top teams in a best of 3. But that is so unlikely.
Even next year has so many questions. Salary cap will be reduced, training camp minimal, pre season gone, regular season shortened by up to 20 games. No one has a perfect crystal ball but this is unknown territory and will take so very long to return to normal. Pretty sure we will have hockey before december but before fans,, unlikely. might be till next spring for fans to be in stadium as virus will keep popping back up. Will all franchises survive? Thats a question to be asked. The new normal has our heads spinning.
