Episode 427: Cooley’s Conscious Brain Is Really Bad at Playing Goalie

The Calgary Flames pick up two wins in three games, including an impressive victory over the defending Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes. Dan and Matt break down the week, Devin Cooley’s outstanding performance, and whether the Flames have a genuine 1A/1B goaltending situation developing with Cooley and Dustin Wolf.

The guys also look at the young players making the most of their opportunities. Aydar Suniev and Jonathan Castagna are earning bigger roles, Matthew Coronato and Martin Pospisil are showing encouraging signs, and Matvei Gridin continues to adjust to the NHL. With the Flames focused on development rather than chasing wins, what should progress look like this season?

Plus, Dan and Matt discuss Rasmus Andersson’s comments about the rebuild, debate the Flames’ defensive pairings, and look ahead to games against Minnesota and Detroit.

And with the return of the 2004 throwback jerseys, there’s plenty of nostalgia to go around, including Dustin Wolf’s Miikka Kiprusoff-inspired gear for the Saddledome’s final season.
