This is a week of additions and subtractions from the team as we look at Mark Giordano leaving for Seattle in the Expansion Draft, Matthew Coronato being drafted in the Entry Draft and which current Flames UFA and RFA players we’d bring back. Then we look ahead to the free agent period starting on July 28 and what holes the Flames need to fill, and if those can be filled via the 2021 free agent class or if trades need to be made.

The Stanley Cup has been awarded which means it is time for two of the biggest events of the off-season – the Entry Draft and Expansion Draft, both within 72 hours of each other. This week we talk about the most likely scenario for the expansion in leaving Mark Giordano unprotected, and what other options the team has to try and keep their captain. We also discuss what the Flames need in this year’s Entry Draft overall, what the prospect pool looks like and profile 12 players as possible draft selections for the Flames with their #12 pick.

There is still mathematically a change the team can make the post-season, but realistically they’re out. Episode 257: The Good And Bad Of Our Remaining Schedule

Sitting 2 points out of the final playoff spot in the Scotia North division but having played 5 more games than Montreal, the Flames are running out of time to make the playoffs. The good news? Almost half of Calgary’s remaining schedule is against the two teams they’ve had the most success against: Montreal (3-1-0) and Vancouver (4-2-0). The bad news? The Flames have just nine wins combined against the other four teams in the North who they play for the 11 other games on the schedule.

This week we discuss if the Elias Lindholm is better for the Flames as a Right Winger, or a Centre this season and which version of the lineup we think will hide some of the team’s weaknesses and give them the best chance of success for the next week of games.
